Tender description : Request for proposal Improvement of the physical conditions of kitchens and water, sanitation and hygiene systems in 17 schools located in selected communities of the dry corridor. Within the framework of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, UNICEF promotes actions that guarantee the right of all children and adolescents to inclusive, equitable and quality education, in safe and healthy environments. Adequate school infrastructure conditions are essential to ensure the well-being and permanence of students, especially in rural areas and communities with higher levels of vulnerability. In coherence with the priorities of the National Human Development Plan 2022–2026 and the objectives of the UNICEF–Government of Nicaragua Cooperation Program 2024–2028, UNICEF will support the Ministry of Education to improve the conditions of access to water, sanitation and hygiene facilities, and kitchen facilities for the preparation of school snacks in at least 17 educational centers in rural communities in departments of the dry corridor of Nicaragua. The dry corridor of Nicaragua, mainly comprised of departments such as Chinandega, Madriz, Nueva Segovia, Matagalpa and Jinotega, is a region that historically receives very low levels of precipitation in the rainy season, which is why access to water is a challenge for communities throughout the year. Agricultural activities and any other human activity, including domestic and school activities, are directly affected by the non-availability of water resources for prolonged periods, especially in years when the El Niño phenomenon impacts the region. The project aims to help educational centers improve their access to water for consumption and cleaning tasks, sanitation, hygiene of the educational community, and the preparation of school snacks, with infrastructure that contributes to the better use of the resource, benefiting 3,598 children and adolescents, 120 teachers and 10,794 community members, who will have adequate facilities.
